How to choose between air cooling and water cooling?

ALAND WELDING Let you feel the most sincere welding service

In the field of welding, air-cooled welding guns and water-cooled welding guns are two common types. Let’s take a look at the differences between them:

1、Air cooled welding gun:

The air-cooled weld torch takes away the heat generated during welding by injecting low-temperature gas from the rear of the weld gun and then ejecting it from the mouth of the welding gun. At the same time, it cools down the weld gun head.
It is suitable for welding thin parts with low current because it is lighter and does not require continuous working intensity.
It has the characteristics of high precision and small heat affected zone.
Not suitable for high current welding.

2、Water cooled welding gun:

Water-cooled weld guns cool the weld gun by circulating water. It delivers the coolant to the heating part of the welding torch, absorbs the heat and then delivers it back to the water tank for cooling. It is suitable for continuous operations of welding large and thick pieces of metal, with high efficiency and can reach 100% duty cycle.
It has the characteristics of durability and good heat dissipation effect.
The price is relatively high.

How to choose

Price: Water-cooled weld guns are usually about 50% more expensive than air-cooled weld guns. In addition, installing a water cooling system also requires additional expenditure.

Welding current: When the welding current is less than 180A and the welding is discontinuous, an air-cooled weld gun can be selected. But when the welding current is greater than 180A, a water-cooled weld gun is more suitable because it can cool down quickly.

Application scenario: Water-cooled weld gun is suitable for welding thick workpieces and high current continuous welding.

In summary, choosing between an air-cooled or water-cooled welding torch depends on your specific welding needs and budget.
