Mig welds, or consumable inert gas shielded arc welding, is a welding method that uses inert gases such as Ar as the main shielding gas, including pure Ar or Ar gas mixed with a small amount of active gas (such as less than 2% O2 or less than 5% CO2 gas) for consumable arc welding.

Unlike TIG welding, MIG (MAG) welding uses a fusible welding wire as an electrode, and uses the arc burning between the continuously fed welding wire and the workpiece as a heat source to melt the welding wire and the base metal. During the welding process, the shielding gas – argon gas is continuously delivered to the welding area through the welding gun nozzle to protect the arc, molten pool and the base metal nearby from the harmful effects of the surrounding air. The welding wire is continuously melted and should be transferred to the welding pool in the form of molten droplets, which will fuse with the molten base metal and condense to form weld metal.
⒈ Like TIG welding, it can weld almost all metals, especially suitable for aluminum welder mig and aluminum alloys, copper and copper alloys, and stainless steel. There is almost no oxidation and burning loss during welding, only a small amount of evaporation loss, and the metallurgical process is relatively simple.
⒉ High labor productivity
⒊ MIG welding can be reversed by DC, and welding of metals such as aluminum and magnesium has a good cathode atomization effect, which can effectively remove the oxide film and improve the welding quality of the joint.
⒋ No tungsten electrode is used, and the cost is lower than TIG welding; it may replace TIG welding.
⒌ When MIG welding aluminum and aluminum alloys, the sub-jet droplet transition method can be used to improve the quality of the welded joint.
⒍ Since argon is an inert gas and does not react chemically with any substance, it is more sensitive to oil and rust on the surface of the welding wire and the base material, and is prone to pores.
The welding wire and workpiece must be carefully cleaned before welding.
Therefore, MIG welding is an efficient and easy-to-operate welding method, which is widely used in automobile manufacturing, shipbuilding, building steel structure, machinery and equipment, home appliance sheet metal, rail transportation, pressure vessels and aerospace industries. It is suitable for a variety of materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum alloy, etc. It has the advantages of fast welding speed, beautiful shape, less spatter, easy automation, etc. It is an indispensable and important welding technology in modern manufacturing.
